Brexiteer Bingo
You can tell if you're speaking to a Brexiteer with no knowledge of what Brexit actually is by using this easy Brexiteer Bingo list.
I've already covered this here.
"We're a world power, currently fifth in the world"
If you hear someone say that then they're clearly using very basic logic because that's
GDP how much cash the country generates as a whole (5th).
GDP (PPP) per capita is how much cash the country generates per person, then adjusted for currency (basically how far that cash actually goes compared to other currencies). We're actually 25th, behind a load of other EU countries.
"It's democracy"
Well it's not really, you're confusing democracy with Pop Idol.
"Stop moaning/whinging"
It was your moaning about all problems with the country being caused by the EU that lead here. It could easily have been builders/doctors/Tories any arbitrary group or subject that the Express chose to brain wash you into believing was "The Problem".
"We won/you lost and if you don't like it then LEAVE!"
Well for one it's my country as much as yours, secondly if you live in Oxfordshire you actually lost so maybe you should leave, thirdly you've made it harder for people to leave the country because of the uncertainty and the fact you've probably lead to losing our rights.
"If you don't like it you can leave the country"
See above
"My grandfather/great grandfather/uncle [fought in the war] would be turning in his grave!"
And there's a good chance that they (mine would have) been turning in their grave to know that the shirt lifting poofter Alan Turing has been pardoned and so have others.
So whilst I agree that we should honour those who served (and do serve) the country; whether in the military or other services, we owe our respect and are duty bound to do our best to make the most of the freedom they've won for us.
This doesn't mean we should forever retain their ideals, their morals, or their objectives. We should grow and be free to become the best we can, ideally their betters - which is what any parent should wish for their children.
Otherwise what freedom was won at such a cost?
